About Me

My educational career has prepared me for Higher Education Administration in a most nontraditional way. For example, my associate degree in Paralegal Studies has a two-fold benefit for you. The first being the ability to research and analyze confidential and sensitive matters in relation to employment, supervisory, and other complex issues. Secondly, I excel at negotiating, mediating, and mitigating circumstances in order to build successful relationships. Further, I completed my BA in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resource Management. This degree has prepared me to effectively hire, manage, observe and evaluate employees, and provide professional development opportunities in order to invest in the human capital of the organization. In addition, I am adept at creating and adhering to budgetary constraints. Finally, my master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages has had a profound effect on my outlook on life, not only in diversity, inclusion, and student needs, but also the need for sensitivity, patience, and flexibility in higher education.
As a paralegal after finishing my associate degree, I honed my skills at confidentially and skillfully addressing legal situations and adhering to the federal or state judiciary mandated calendars. In addition, I was able to efficiently manage my time with a full-time position as well as studying for my bachelor’s degree at Tarleton State University. During my tenure at the law firm, I became the office manager for the firm. In this position, I supervised two subordinates, managed day-to-day activities, prepared filings for federal and state tax authorities, and reviewed documents before submitting them to the lead attorneys for final review. In higher education. I started teaching with an assistantship at Southern Illinois University, another successfully completed test of my time management skills. I taught multiple proficiency levels in English for Academic Purposes to a multi- cultural student population while studying for my degree. Post-graduation, I moved abroad to teach for the Community College of Qatar, the Military Technical College in Oman, and currently, I am a faculty member at the American International College in Kuwait. I have taken many different roles at the college. These positions range from being an elected Faculty Senator, an evening shift supervisor, chairing many committees including the scheduling, hiring, and assessment committees, and finally, my favorite part, advising the student population. The American International College in Kuwait opened my eyes to another level of administration in Higher Education. The director of the college regularly turned to me for opinions on policy and procedure, curriculum design, preparing a professional development program, training faculty on the LMS, and founding a new foundational program. That experience has been invaluable.
